Review of The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

Synopsis:

Review:
This book is GOLDEN. I absolutely loved everything about this book. This book was so different from the movie and yet it still sparkles and shines on its own and didn’t at all make me dislike the movie. I am a bit sad that not all the characters made it from the book to the movie because boy is there some good characterization! So this book takes place in NYC versus San Francisco which is pretty cool. I love the way Mia never really thought to question the places she’d been with her dad, or all of her grandmother’s eccentricities. I love that this book is very much written as Mia’s journal and everything in it is very relatable and believable (I’m horrible at math too, Mia!) I loved how Mia would relate things to pop culture, like how her full name “sounds like the name of some stupid line of makeup, or of somebody form a Disney movie who’s been missing and just recovered her memory, or something”. I also love how a big part of her worries are that her grandmother wouldn’t allow her to have her giant fat cat with her in the palace; as someone with bed sleeping cats, I can understand! This book just made me want to read all of the diaries about Mia’s life!

Review:
Normally the “girl next door” troupe is so not me and yet this book takes a completely different angle that makes it just *chef’s kiss*. There were moments where you think for sure that “Typewriter Girl” and “Remington” will reveal themselves; or figure out who the other is of their own merit, but the whole time they are living their lives and it is impossible to stop reading. While there were many things I did absolutely love about Olivia, I wasn’t a fan at all of how she came across as too naïve and inexperienced. That being said, I absolutely adored this book and couldn’t wait to start the second one. This is a quick, cozy, feel good read. Highly recommend it for a little bit of romance.

Review:
Too often is it easy to forget that jobs women now thoroughly enjoy and thrive doing had once been considered taboo. This book did an amazing job of showcasing what was expected of a woman, and how men were able to dictate exactly what a woman was allowed to do.

Min is a relatable heroine with worthy ambitions and goals. While she wants something unattainable her reasons for pushing so hard are admirable. Even in the face of complete ruin she is only willing to do what it takes to keep the ones she loves safe, even if it means sacrificing her own desires in the process.

C. J. Archer is such a great, wonderful person on top of being a great author.  She has a fan group on Facebook, CJ Archer’s Ministry of Fans, where people who like her books can talk about them, and Ms. Archer interacts with her fans frequently (which makes her even more endearing).  If you are like me and adore her books, join the group and chat with like minded individuals.

She has at various times worked as a librarian, IT support person and technical writer but in her heart has always been a fiction writer. She has several series which occur in the same Victorian-era “world”, one after the other. Circumstances

I’ve planned to keep my book reviews and news up to date on a regular basis, but sometimes life is hectic.  There has been a lot going on in my personal life, across the spectrum between good and bad.  Family members have passed away, and my husband and I have bought our first house.

Worry not, despite everything, I am still reading, writing, planning, plotting.

Expect to see some changes around here in the near future.  I’ve decided that I’ll drop the nom de’plume and go by Amy S. Brown, quite different from the Lizzy March some might have come familiar with.
